Artibrand creates a bespoke info-graphic style illustration for Kirkcudbright Dark Space Planetarium, to be used at local schools to highlight the physicist and mathematician, James Clerk Maxwell, who spent most of his life in Dumfries and Galloway.
His contributions to the science are considered by many to be of the same magnitude as those of Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein. With the publication of “A Dynamical Theory of the Electromagnetic Field” in 1865, Maxwell demonstrated that electric and magnetic fields travel through space as waves moving at the speed of light.
The illustration is a visual collage of Maxwell’s greatest achievements, from the late 19th Century, influencing the development of modern technology, such as the microwave, laptop and mobile phone.
